Congregation Shomray Hadath having been founded in 1883 has always been a congregation dedicated to traditional Judaism with an ideology which interprets the Torah and Jewish teachings in the light of contemporary knowledge and scholarship. CSH has been an innovative congregation, leading the way to an open-minded Judaism and representing a rare combination of intellectual integrity together with loyalty to the finest traditions of the Jewish way of life.

Congregation Shomray Hadath believes that Judaism can be flexible enough to meet the challenges of new times and firm enough to remain loyal to the core of Jewish tradition and practice. At Congregation Shomray Hadath we recognize that Judaism will continue to be a combination of tradition and change, an ever evolving search for an understanding of God’s teachings and for the way of life which will be pleasing in God’s eyes. Through its programs of services, classes, discussions, life cycle events, Bar/Bat Mitzvah training, and communal celebrations it provides its members with opportunities for religious, spiritual and intellectual growth.

Congregation Shomray Hadath is a group of people of all ages who have come together in order to promote a revered way of life, transforming the philosophy of Judaism from theory into practice. It is a community of people who are concerned and caring for one another, who respect one another, allowing for difference and divergence within the framework of the ideals of the society.

The objectives therefore, of Congregation Shomray Hadath, shall be to establish and maintain a synagogue and such religious, educational, social and recreational activities as will help further the cause and objectives of the synagogue and traditional Judaism.
